Mountain View Garden Club Schedule

The Mountain View Garden Club activities include lectures and workshops, field trips and tours, community projects and plantings, fund-raising events such as the Plant Exchange & Marketplace in the spring and the Harvest Dance & BBQ Dinner in the fall.


Schedule 2010
March 16, 2010: Meeting
Our first meeting of 2010 will be held at 7 p.m. at the Clifford Fire Hall. A guest from the LeRaysville Cheese Factory will be the speaker. The public is invited to attend.
April 20, 2010: Meeting
The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Clifford Twp. Fire Hall, Rt. 106 with a program presented by a representative of Sassy Albert's Soaps; followed by the meeting.
April 22, 2010: Earth Day Clean-Up
Our spring "Adopt-a-Highway" Clean-Up begins at 9:30a.m. at St. Pius Church; we'll distribute gloves, safety vest and trash bags, then divide into groups to pick up trash on a two mile section of Routes 106 & 374 from Royal to West Clifford. Rain date: April 24, 2010.
If you can not join us, please consider cleaning up a section of road in your neighborhood. Although you might incur the expense for disposing of the trash - Your Help in Keeping Pennsyvania Beautiful is Worth It!
May 12, 2010: Speaker Luncheon
The garden club is sponsoring its 2nd Speaker's Luncheon at 11:30a.m. at Elkview Country Club, Crystal Lake. This year's speaker is Daniel Krall, Associate Professor at Cornell University; Landscape Architect and Historian of the American Landscape. Mark your calendars and please spread the word. Tickets are $20. May 18, 2010: Meeting
We will meet prior to 6:00 p.m. at Fiddle Lake Farm to tour the Bed and Breakfast and future organic gardens. Our meeting will be held there also. Directions are available on: www.fiddlelakefarm.com.
June 2010: no meeting.
June 6, 2010: Plant Exchange & Marketplace
The Plant Exchange & Marketplace will be held on June 6, 2010 from 1:00-4:00p.m. at the home of Connie Tellep. Parking available at the Clifford Twp Vol. Fire Co. picnic grounds on Rt. 106. Everyone is welcome (not required) to bring 2 potted perennials to exchange. The event includes perennials from club members' gardens for exchange, plants for purchase and numerous local vendors selling paintings, jewelry, pottery, soaps, candles and much more! Please join us for a very fun afternoon; the event is open to the public.
June 15, 2010: Planting at the Hoover School
We will plant flowers beginning at 9a.m. at the Hoover School. The beds will be pre-dug. Bring, gloves, shovel, rakes, and hand tools. Please join us in beautifying the exterior of this recently renovated historical school house. See the story of the Hoover School at: www.cliffordpa.com.
June 18, 2010: Field Trip to Felicita Gardens

July 20, 2010: Meeting
We will meet at 1:00p.m. at the home of Helene Tinsley in West Clifford for a luncheon and meeting.
August 17, 2010: Meeting
A potluck picnic and meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Lake Idlewild Pavilion, Rt. 374.
September 21, 2010: Meeting
We'll visit Maiolatesi Wine Cellar for a 5:00p.m wine making presentation.
October 19, 2010: Meeting
The evening program by Michael O'Neil of House of Flowers in Forest City begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Clifford Twp. Fire Hall, Rt. 106; followed by the meeting.
November 16, 2010: Meeting
A program by Roderica Tilley - "Still Life's With Flowers" begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Clifford Twp. Fire Hall, Rt. 106; followed by the meeting.
December 15, 2010: Holiday Party
Our Holiday Party begins at 6:30 p.m. at Stonebridge Inn & Restaurant.

March 17, 2009: Meeting
Our first meeting of 2009 will be held at 7 p.m. at the Clifford Fire Hall. Program on Growing Plants from Seeds to be presented by Susan Mazler.
April 21, 2009: Meeting
The monthly meeting and program begins at 7 p.m. at the Clifford Fire Hall. Program on Landscape Design & Lawn Care to be presented by Dan Bantell.

May 6, 2009: Luncheon & Speaker
A luncheon will be held at the Elkview Country Club beginning at 11:30 a.m. Duane Campbell, the speaker, is a nationally known garden columnist and Master Gardener from Towanda. Please click here for a printable reservation slip. Please get your reservations in as soon as possible; we will be inviting other clubs after the April meeting. It should be a fun day, so ask a friend along and make your reservations soon!
May 12, 2009: Work Session in Clifford
We'll begin work at the cemetery and "Welcome" sign on Main Street at 1 p.m. then move to the Veteran's Memorial at the Township Bldg. This will take a few hours, so plan to join us after work ~ it's a fun time ~ bring gloves, hand tools and rakes.
May 19, 2009: Meeting & Member's Plant Exchange
The monthly meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Clifford Fire Hall. Main topic of discussion will be the upcoming Plant Exchange & Marketplace scheduled for June 7, 2009. We will also hold a Member's Plant Exchange.
May 21, 2009: Planting Flower Barrels in Forest City
The Garden Club will give instruction and hands on assistance to members of the Forest City Commercial Association, Main Street business owners, school children and residents on planting 20 barrels of flowers. We'll begin at 4 p.m. at various locations along Main Street. Everyone is invited to help! Bring your hand shovel, gloves and tools.
The flowers will be a beautiful and welcoming site by the 30th Anniversary of "Old Home Week" on July 30th - August 2nd.
June 7, 2009: Plant Exchange & Marketplace
The 5th Annual Plant Exchange and Marketplace will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the home of Dr. & Mrs. Russell Swetter on Main Street, Clifford. Everyone is welcome (although not required) to bring 2 potted perennials to exchange. The event includes perennials from club members' gardens for exchange, plants for purchase and numerous local vendors selling paintings, jewelry, pottery, soaps, candles and much more! Please join us for a very fun afternoon; refreshments, too! The event is open to the public.
Mid - June 2009: Planting at the Forest City Nursing Home
By rejuvenating the Gazebo garden at the Forest City Nursing Home with perennial and annual flowers, the residents and their visitors will have a lovely place to visit while enjoying the outdoors.
June 16, 2009: Light Lunch and Meeting
Our June meeting will be held during the afternoon at Lois Todd's home with a light lunch followed by a program on Attracting Wild Birds & Butterflies to Your Garden to be presented by Lee Grimes, Master Gardener. Members only.
June 26, 2009: Field Trip to MacKenzie-Childs
In addition to their gardens, the grounds of MacKenzie-Childs on Cayuga Lake in Aurora, NY, house their production studio, farmhouse and retail shop filled with their unique tableware, home furnishings and gifts. Following the tour we will have time to visit the shop, go to lunch and then tour a winery in the area. The cost will be around $45. per person. We will have to leave Clifford at 6:45 a.m. and return around 8:00 p.m. It will be a long day but well worth the trip!
July 21, 2009: Meeting
The monthly meeting and program begins at 7 p.m. at the Clifford Township Municipal Building. Our program will be on Arranging Flowers from your Garden with Michael O'Neill from The House of Flowers. Michael requests that we bring any blooming flowers we have in our gardens and he will make arrangements with them. This will be a fun and interesting program!

September 15, 2009: Meeting
The monthly meeting and program begins at 7 p.m. at the Clifford Fire Hall. Program on Growing Hydrangeas to be presented by Sharon Ward, Master Gardener.
September 25, 2009: Fall Garden Maintenance
A Friday morning clean-up is scheduled at 10:00a.m. at the Herrick Twp. Municipal Bldg. Please try to give us a hand; bring gloves and tools.
September 29, 2009: Fall Garden Maintenance
A Tuesday morning clean-up is scheduled at 10:00a.m. at the Clifford Cemetery on Main Street. Please try to give us a hand; bring gloves and tools.

October 20, 2009: Meeting
The monthly meeting and program begins at 7 p.m. at the Clifford Fire Hall. Program on Putting Your Garden to Bed to be presented by Gretchen Ludders, Master Gardener.
October 24, 2009: Harvest Dance & Chicken BBQ
A fun evening co-sponsored by the Mountain View Garden Club and the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company begins at 6:30p.m. at the Fire Hall on Rt. 106. Featuring delicious Chicken Barbecue dinner, soft drinks, home made dessert buffet and coffee, music and dancing! BYOB. Tickets are $20. Early November 2009: Tree Planting
We will assist the CTCA and the Clifford Volunteer Firemen plant 20 trees at the Main Street "Welcome" sign and the Firemen's picnic grounds. All are welcome to help! Please bring gloves, shovels, and rakes.
November 17, 2009: Meeting
The monthly meeting and program begins at 7 p.m. at the Clifford Fire Hall. Program on Houseplants to be presented by Phyllis Reinhardt, Master Gardener.
December 15, 2009: Holiday Party
We'll gather for a Holiday Party at Stone Bridge at 6:30 p.m.
